Help your Dog become Well-Mannered with Puppy Manners Class

Taught by Kara and Kristina, this 6-week class is designed for pups between the ages of 4 and 6 months, for our Puppy Kindergarten class graduates, AND for dogs that have not had any previous training.

In this class, you will get an in-depth look at what it takes to rear a puppy at this crucial time in its life. You will learn how dogs communicate with people and other dogs, how stress can change a dog’s behavior, and how dogs learn (what works and what doesn’t). You will implement force-free and reward-based techniques to teach your puppy basic skills such as Sit, Stand, Down, Stay, Come, Leave It, and Place with duration and added distance, starting with loose-leash walking, polite meal manners, and meet and greet.

We’ll discuss keeping your puppy happy through positive play and mental stimulation. We’ll also review body handling and typical undesirable behaviors such as nipping, jumping, barking, house training accidents, and stealing. Puppy play will be offered at the end of the class and will be based on the size of the dog, play styles, and their desire to interact with others.

Please bring your dog to class wearing a collar and/or harness with a 4 ft – 8 ft standard leash (no retractable leashes are allowed). Do NOT feed your dog at least 2 – 3 hours prior to class, and bring a LOT of TASTY, SOFT treats like cheese, cooked chicken, or any soft, flavored chicken, liver, or beef (NO crunchy Milk Bones or biscuits). The treats you use at home may not be effective in a distracting class environment. Please bring along your pup’s bed, blanket, or towel for Place training, a water bowl, and a stuffed bone or Kong to keep them busy and not barking when needed. Please note the schedule Week 1 NO DOG, parent(s) attend for introductory class.
