Puppy Manners

Taught by Kristina, your puppy will proceed to our Puppy Manners class designed for puppies 4 to 6 months of age after successful completion of Puppy Kindergarten.  Puppy Manners class consists of 2 separate classes – Impulse control I and Loose Leash Walking I.  Both classes are 1 hour long in duration (see schedule below). They can be taken together the same time or separately,  in the order of your choosing. 

Please bring to class your pup in a collar and/or harness with a 4 ft – 8 ft standard leash (no retractable leashes permitted). Please be sure to feed your pup at least 2 – 3 hours before class and bring a LOT of TASTY SOFT treats, such as cheese, cooked chicken, or any soft flavored chicken, liver, or beef (NO milk bones or biscuits). The same treats you use at home may not work in a high distractive class environment. Please bring along your pup’s water bowl and a bone or Kong to keep your pup busy to avoid barking if indicated for your pup.

Impulse Control  I

Where dogs start to take their first steps in learning self control, they will learn Sit-Stay, Down-Stay with added duration and distance, begin Go to Mat/Place training (which is a prerequisite for future near the door manners training in Puppy Jr. High), Leave it, Drop it, polite manners for feeding and continue to address and work with problem behaviors like jumping up, barking, nipping, etc.  

Loose Leash Walking I  

Where dogs learn the basics of Loose Leash Walking indoors. This class gives both Owner and dog the knowledge of how to work on both ends of the leash as a team. Leash manners is not about just what to do when your dog pulls but how to stay connected and teach the “relationship based” walk.
